POLYCOM ACQUIRES ASPI DIGITAL, EXPANDING ITS SOLUTIONS FOR CUSTOM-ROOM ENVIRONMENTS

Acquisition adds installed room voice conferencing systems to Polycom's industry-leading line of communication solutions.

MILPITAS, Calif. - December 4, 2001 - Polycom®, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLCM), a worldwide leader in the convergence of interactive voice, video and data communications, today announced that it has acquired, for a purchase price of approximately $5 million, Atlanta-based Atlanta Signal Processors, Inc. (ASPI Digital), a leading manufacturer of products for the installed voice systems market. The acquisition will add to Polycom's existing table-top voice solutions to include custom-room environments and large conference areas.

"The acquisition of ASPI Digital enables Polycom to now offer a complete solution for custom-room environments, integrating industry-leading voice and video systems," said Bob Hagerty, chairman and CEO of Polycom. "We plan to leverage the strong technology synergies between our high-end video communications products and ASPI's high-quality installed room voice systems to provide an ideal solution for applications such corporate board rooms, executive centers and distance learning environments."

ASPI Digital provides a range of voice products for the installed voice and video conferencing markets. These products incorporate innovative technologies such as noise cancellation, multi-channel acoustic echo cancellation and automatic microphone mixing for larger conferencing applications that will complement Polycom's industry leading Acoustic Clarity Technology(tm).

"The innovative technology in ASPI's products, such as wideband acoustic echo and noise cancellation, extends Polycom's leadership in providing high-end voice solutions to our large customers," said Sunil Bhalla, senior vice president and general manager of voice communications for Polycom. "The Vortex® EF 2280 is an all-in-one voice conferencing solution with industry-leading voice processing capabilities that will enable users to access the best voice quality in large conference rooms and boardrooms."

The addition of installed-room voice systems completes Polycom's end-to-end solution for custom-room environments, which include voice and video systems, directories, call processing, multipoint control, network and protocol gateways, and management systems. Polycom offers an application programming interface (API) for its stand-alone and rack-mounted video endpoints that give integrators tremendous flexibility and reliability for building custom systems.

"Polycom's reputation in voice quality and its global channel network will help to expand the market reach of our installed room systems," said Craig Richardson, CEO of ASPI Digital. "We look forward to incorporating our technology as part of The Polycom Office(tm) solution and expanding the capabilities of installed room systems with closer integration to video communications and voice over IP."

ASPI Digital's product development and marketing teams will remain based in Atlanta and will continue working with and supporting existing partners.
